The Reader **

Director: Stephen Daldry
Year: 2008
Book by: Bernhard Schlink "Der Vorleser"
Adapted by: David Hare
Cinematographer: Roger Deakins, Chris Menges

I imagine the book must be a lot better than this film, because it moves so fast from scene to scene that it neglects real character development, Kate Winslet's character is one dimensional, despite her attempt to act her way out of a script that doesn't want to give her dimension. I'm sorry but controversial sex affairs, and Nazi war crime trials, acted out by two top actors doesn't make up for poor direction and a script that is obviously just trying to cram a good book into a 2 hour movie.
