Director: Oliver Stone
Year: 2008
Writer: Stanley Weiser
Cinematographer: Phedon Papamichael
A director should never condescend to his subject. No matter how the director might feel about it personally. The impersonations belong on Saturday Night Live, not in a film. Josh Brolin is okay, but I can't believe they allowed Thandie Newton (a good actress by the way) to get away with such an obnoxiously incorrect impersonation of Condi Rice. Toby Jones as Karl Rove, Jeffrey Wright as Colin Powell and Richard Dreyfuss as Dick Cheney aren't much better.
Its pretends to say "well, let's just understand he's a poor damaged kid trying to earn his dad's respect" but in reality this film hates every one of its characters and never makes an earnest attempt to make the characters understandable. I don't ask that you make them falsely likable, just that you make them human, not cartoons.
I'm disappointed with you Oliver.
