The Brothers Bloom ***

Writer/Director: Rian Johnson
Year: 2008

This film suffers from being too complex for itself. The best con man films like The Sting are simple films with cons that twist at the end. This film gets too caught up in being fantastical, it is aware that its a movie, and it plays that up by being cartoonish in attempting to do anything it can. The final con though twists one too many times for me, and I never feel real emotional connection to the characters. I think this director has some great ideas, and does a good job telling his story visually, but I think he's trying to do too much. Simplify.

Good, fun movie, but for a great film, see The Sting.
